Killed in action on October 26, 1944 on the island of Peleliu by a land mine. It is probable (though not confirmed) that PFC Queen was one of nine men of Co. E, 323rd INF Reg, 81st (Wildcat) DIV, US Army, who were killed when the Japanese remotely detonated a mine. This is an excerpt from page #179 of "The 81st Infantry Wildcat Division In WWII":
The 323d Infantry initiated its combat duties with patrol action on all fronts, demolition of caves in the rear areas to prevent reoccupation by japanese, movement of supplies to advanced troops, and improvement of positions. Shortly after noon, an unfortunate accident occurred when nine men were killed and twenty wounded in Company E by the explosion of an aerial bomb which had been buried as a controlled mine and was set off from a distant Japanese observation post. The area on the southern edge of Umurbrogol Mountain, where the company had been clearing caves, was thickly mined with similar bombs which were arranged to explode on impact or were booby-trapped.
